Open Edit

Open Edit brings books on contemporary Asian art from Asia Art Archive’s collection in Hong Kong to Ho Chi Minh City, inviting the public to read and interact with it in unconventional ways.

Approximately 180 items form the Mobile Library — including monographs, exhibition catalogues, reference books, and magazines — relate conceptually to mobility, the process of travel, exchange, interaction, participation, and communication.

In addition to reading the books, the public is encouraged to ‘edit’ them by writing, drawing, highlighting, adhering notes and pictures. Through these actions, people are intervening into the collection and reinterpreting its material, as well as engaging in a dialogue amongst themselves.

Open Edit is the first archive project of its kind to come to Vietnam. These books showcase some of the Asian region’s hottest artistic talent today, revealing the vibrancy of established and emerging practitioners working in painting, installation, printmaking, performance, drawing, sculpture, video, film and much more.

This is the first stage of the Open Edit tour — a collaborative effort of AAA, San Art, and Hong Kong artist Jaffa Lam — and shall travel, with your edits, to other major cities across Asia.
